Five important reasons to have health insurance
- You have a greater choice of when, where and how you get treated, in consultation with your doctor.
- No added stress about how to pay for health bills.
- Avoid long delays in waiting for treatment in the public health system.
- Cover now for many unknown health issues that may arise in the future.
- Access to the latest recognised medical procedures and technology.
Medical Cover pays for the treatment of non-acute medical conditions.
This includes the medical costs of any surgical or non-surgical treatment in a private hospital. While New Zealand has an established public health system, there are limitations to what it can provide. For emergency treatment, the public system will provide you with immediate care. But for other health problems, even serious ones like heart surgery, you may have to be continuously assessed to remain on the waiting list. It may take months, or even years to be treated. The effects waiting can have on you and your family can range from being inconvenient to devastating. SAVE 10% a discount may be available if you transfer your existing or take out new Life, Trauma or Disability Income Protection (evidence of health will be needed accordingly).
How Do Health Insurance Plans Work?
Health Insurance New Zealand Made Easy
The best part is that it doesn’t have to be expensive. Affordable health insurance depends on factors such as your age and overall health at the time of taking out the policy, the stated excess and even things such as whether or not you have a gym membership. Much like home or car insurance, a monthly or annual premium is paid by you to cover medical expenses when you need it.
Ease Insurance is an independent health insurance broker. We get quotes, apply and compare health insurance plans for your personal circumstances. We operate in order to find you the most suitable and affordable health insurance plans.
Our experts know that different health insurance plans offer different benefits and no two policies are the same. We make sure that the level of cover suits your needs and can present the best options to you from up to eight major insurance providers, to deliver optimal results.
Case Study – Carol
Carol: Onepath Major Medical Cover client, Health: Hysteroscopy and D&C August 2008
“I was really nervous about my surgery and being new to New Zealand, we didn’t understand the medical system at all – which only added to my nervousness. Right from the start, the team at OnePath went out of their way to explain everything and made me feel much more comfortable about the surgery and my claim. Unfortunately the surgery didn’t go well and I ended up in the public hospital so that I could get the care I needed. At this point ACC entered the picture, which only confused us further. Because I was so unwell, OnePath stepped in and took care of the entire bill and dealt with ACC on my behalf. This meant that my partner and I didn’t have to worry about anything other than my recovery. We were so thankful to have the right insurance and even more thankful that we were so well looked after by OnePath”

Case Study – David
David aged 45, divorced with two school aged children. Went to his GP for a routine medical for his truck drivers licence and was found to have high blood pressure by his GP & sent to a cardiologist for investigations. Eight months later David started experiencing angina. An angiogram, angioplasty and eventually bypass surgery was required over a period of 18 months. Total claim cost to date has been $60,000.00.
David has a health insurance policy with a nil excess and he was able to have all of his treatment and surgery performed in a private hospital and have "peace of mind" knowing all costs would be covered and he could concentrate on getting better.

Case Study – Peter
Peter was 62 years old and looking forward to retiring and being able to play more golf and travel with his wife. Most of his working career was with the banking industry and his family had gained their independence and left home.
In April 2004, Peter went to his GP as he was having difficulty passing urine. Blood tests were taken and he was found to have a PSA level of 6.3. Peter was referred to a Urologist, had prostate biopsies taken and recommended brachytherapy as treatment.
Thankfully Peter and Jane had health insurance as they were advised that the cost for the treatment would be $22,000. Peter was able to have the treatment, and because he got prior approval the providers were paid directly and he was able to concentrate on a speedy recovery and a return to the golf course.
